Also I love the art style, it looks so good You won’t want to take your eyes off the game, and you won’t because all of the action is flying across the screen. Overall, this is absolutely fantastic so far and I can’t wait to see this game evolve in the future. By that I mean having secrets, traps, and platforming segments in most of the rooms. I think the layouts of the areas could more interesting though. Bosses and enemies are also pretty fun and fair. Combat is really smooth and interesting, with many tools you can play with. If I had to namedrop some other games that come to mind when playing this then I’d say it’s kinda like Death’s Door had a roguelike baby with Dead Cells. I’m a supermassive roguelike nerd and everything about this game immediately grabbed my attention and I’ve been waiting for the early access release drop since The Game Awards. Really, There’s not a lot of negatives so far that would make you not want to pick up the game. Death is cute but has a strong personality in his animation and look, and each of the characters you run across are fantastic. It’s been a while since there was a game that made me want to read all the lore elements: including the profile descriptions, but this world has such a great atmosphere that I want to learn everything. Really, it’s the world that really shines here. The roguelite nature of the game, you do feel yourself getting better and better with each run early on, learning enemy patterns and avoiding those bad hits and exploiting what the game has to throw at you. Attacks feel varied with different weaponry in terms of timing/risk/reward, but the scythe has good combo and base attacks that have their own use cases. The game feels snappy with a good weight to it: forcing you to jump from creature to creature, stunning them and avoiding hits left and right, and really makes you feel the hits with the health mechanic that has non-recoverable health (well, it’s recoverable but not with the most common health recovery).
